Critical Design  · Speculative Design · Material Design

Our concept employs a compactor machine using waste for sculpting, aiming to visualize waste volume and prompt eco-consciousness. Users engage with it by managing their waste, promoting recycling, and reflecting on consumption. As waste accumulates, sculptures grow, spotlighting excessive packaging's impact, fostering waste reduction through altered consumption behaviors.

Concept

Our concept involves the creation of a compactor machine that utilizes waste materials to fabricate sculptures. The primary objective is to visually represent the quantity of waste generated and alert individuals to the detrimental environmental impact of their consumption habits. Through an engaging approach, our design aids individuals in managing their generated waste when they dispose of it. The machine efficiently facilitates recycling while encouraging contemplation on the rationale behind waste generation.

In our design framework, as users produce waste, the quantity of miniature sculptures increases in an intriguing manner. Additionally, as users grow weary of these sculptures, they revert to being "waste" again, inducing pressure on the system. Our conceptual framework intends to heighten public awareness concerning excessive packaging and single-use products. Envisioning a future shift in human consumption habits, we aim to reduce waste gradually.
